Reading about few characters have disheartened me as much as reading about HH Holmes. He is recognized as America’s first serial killer. This individual tortured animals as a kid, gave a woman an “abortion”- killing her and the baby, cheated and manipulated women- draining them of their savings and their lives, structured a castle for his pleasure killings, using the 1893 Chicago World Fair to lure people into his lair- sealing their fates, and killing his partner in crime, as well as taking custody of his 3 children and murdered them one by one.
The list goes on and on. Eventually this fiend is caught and hanged at the Philadelphia County Prison and here’s the kicker: supposedly there is a curse that he leaves behind, claiming revenge against those who took a part in apprehending him. This guy spent his life doing and killing as he pleased, he could’ve taken literally a huge chunk of the American population with him to his grave (and legend says this is so) The last thing this guy needs is revenge. Just looking up info on this guy and typing it up makes me feel that he is going to come to me in my sleep and murder me- I really hope that this will not happen. Call me crazy, but I’m pretty sure I have more people around me to miss me than Holmes probably had at the time of his death.
